You can help the Great Lakes Children’s Museum fulfill its mission to create “hands-on, interactive, and informal educational environments for children and the adults in their lives that invite curiosity, allow exploration, encourage participation, and celebrate the child-like wonder in all of us” by joining the Museum’s Board of Trustees.
We currently have five openings on our 15-member board, and are seeking greater demographic and geographic diversity. We are particularly interested in individuals with education, marketing, public relations, and fund development expertise.
The upcoming year will be an exciting one for the Museum’s Board, as we continue to deepen our relationship with the Discovery Center ~ Great Lakes, including developing and planning for a long-range facilities expansion. The Children’s Museum is part of a forward-thinking process that is poised on the brink of a great positive change for the region.
You can be part of that process by joining our Board of Trustees.
Board Responsibilities & Expectations
The Board is responsible for the vision and mission of the organization, ensuring that the organization is adequately funded and staffed to meet its mission, providing financial support and assisting with fund and donor development, and evaluation of organizational functions. Board members attend monthly Board meetings, participate on Board committees, participate in Board development and training programs, assist with and attend special events, contribute personally to support the operating fund of the organization, and assist the Great Lakes Children’s Museum by providing “hands-on” support for its missions and programs.
Nominations Should Include
• Full name of nominee (individuals may nominate themselves)
• Complete address of nominee and contact information, including email address.
• Information about the nominee’s qualifications and interests that should be considered by the existing Board when considering appointments. This could include a resume, letters of support, biographical or other information. You can download a Prospective Trustee Application Form here.
