Weather—Get the Facts! (Grades 1, 2 & 3)

During a 30 minute tour of our live weather station students learn about the instruments that meteorologists use to measure the weather. Our in-house weather station continuously monitors air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure and rainfall using instruments manufactured and donated by Traverse City’s own R. M. Young Company. This program helps kids understand why knowing about the weather is important, how weather data are collected, and how the data are interpreted. A kit for building working weather vanes back in the classroom is included. This program is usually given during the last 30 minutes of the visit. Plan on spending at least one and one-half hours at the Museum.
