Waves of Wonder -- The Museum Theme

Explore the museum and you'll quickly discover that it celebrates the child-like wonder in all of us. Every exhibit has been carefully designed to delight the senses and invite curiosity of a precious natural resource -- water. Like the Great Lakes that surround our state, water is everywhere you look and touch in the museum. Here you can experience real splashing, imaginary swimming and up close and personal discoveries of the river outside.

Some of the learning exhibits in the museum’s permanent gallery include a lighthouse overlooking the bay and the recently unveiled interactive "Listening to the River" exhibit which allows visitors a glimpse into life in the local watershed. In the water cycle area, children can become a water-droplet as they “evaporate” up the sunshine stairs into the cloud climb, slide down the raindrop slide and explore the accessible earth tunnel as groundwater. Other featured experiences include a large-scale magnetic navigation wall, the "What’s in the Bay?" interactive video, the thunder and lightning station, and a three-tiered water table complete with pumps, locks, and boats.

Each wet and wonderful exploration builds understanding and respect for the water that sustains our bodies and planet.
