GLCM Selected for Traverse City Triathlon Charity Challenge!

TRAVERSE CITY CHARITIES COMPETE IN IRONMAN 70.3 TRAVERSE CITY

TRAVERSE CITY, MI: As part of the inaugural IRONMAN® 70.3 Traverse City, five local Traverse City charities will raise funds for their organization in the Traverse City Triathlon Charity Challenge.

The Traverse City Tourism Foundation has awarded complimentary IRONMAN® 70.3 entries to five local charities. These charities will campaign for pledged dollars in completing the IRONMAN® 70.3, with all pledged dollars going directly back to the associated charity. The five local charities include Munson Manor Hospitality House, Food Rescue, a Goodwill of Northern Michigan program, The Father Fred Foundation, The Great Lakes Children’s Museum and TART Trails.

“Because IRONMAN is a brand promoting healthy lifestyle, we approached local organizations that together paint a diverse picture of community health — physical, emotional, educational, recreational,” explains Trevor Tkach, President/CEO of Traverse City Tourism. “There are a lot of local organizations that fit that bill and we hope this is just the beginning of annual charity partnerships surrounding IRONMAN 70.3 Traverse City.”

The iconic IRONMAN® Series of events is the largest participation sports platform in the world. Since the inception of the IRONMAN® brand in 1978, athletes have proven that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE® by crossing finish lines at the world’s most challenging endurance races. Beginning as a single race, IRONMAN has grown to become a global sensation with more than 260 events across 44 countries.

The Traverse City race consists of a 1.2 mile swim in West Grand Traverse Bay, a 56 mile bike originating and finishing in Traverse City, and a 13.1 mile run along Boardman Lake, finishing on Front Street in the heart of downtown Traverse City. Athletes and spectators will find a host of unique restaurants and a variety of wineries and breweries to enjoy during their time in Traverse City.
